Processing Masonry

Exposed Masonry

In flush-pointed work, the exposed masonry is laid with full-bedded mortar joints. The entire depth of the joints is done from the same pour, i.e., the mortar used for laying is the same as the mortar or grout used for pointing.

The precondition is that the masonry mortar has a good degree of workability and a favorable level of water absorption. The grout should not be allowed to drip down onto and smear the face of the block, in case there is any welling up out of the joints. After the mortar begins to stiffen the joints in the front edge are flush-jointed tightly, and thus compacted, with the use of a wood block or a section of pipe.
