Designing masonry structures

Optimizing Wall Design

The brick length and height of Sand-Lime Bricks and Blocks correspond to the octametric dimensional system (12.5 cm grid). As a result, sand-lime masonry is especially efficient for use in walls sized in multiples of 12.5 cm.

With SL Quadro in particular, on-site construction can be rationally carried out, since the masonry can be built to overall and supplemental sizes without having to fabricate to special dimensions. The work process flows more simply and more efficiently.

In masonry using SL Quadro brick, the head joints are not mortared. This means that the nominal dimension of building elements equals the finish dimensions and is a multiple of 12.5 cm. Therefore, in sizing wall panels and columns, there is no need to deduct 1 cm (per brick) to allow for the joint width, or to add 1 cm to for openings and overall room dimensions, as was previously the case for masonry construction.
